A Strong and Merry Finish to Our Shipping Year
The U.S. Postal Service, United Parcel Service and FedEx expect a year-end surge in parcel delivery, fueled by booming online shopping during the holiday season. This translates, for the USPS, into delivering 4 billion packages this year, which will be a 13% increase over the same peak season 2014. We expect our first blog of the year to be a recap of the final numbers peak season brought, but right now, we’re going to look at the way fulfillment centers support those record breaking seasons.
At the B.I.G. Logistics facility in Dallas, we have almost 140,000 sqft of space, ready to hold both palletized and oversized cargo. During massive peak seasons where shipping needs and pick and pack services are premium, we are able to step in a alleviate some of the burden for overloaded warehouses or act as an intermediary due to our strategic location in the south east. We can assemble, ship, coordinate, receive and fill orders of all sizes for clients.
An issue seen last year was when carriers failed in 2013 to deliver packages by Christmas Eve, they took on more seasonal assistance in 2014 in their fulfillment centers. When 2014 proved to be a slower season, bottom lines were affected in the fourth quarter profits. Using a secondary service, like we offer in our warehouses can alleviate the guess work involved. We understand our markets and our forecasts and we can ensure your margins are unaffected by fluctuations in continual years. In 2015, carriers hired on approximately the same number of seasonal workers as 2014, which could be an issue if the peak goes higher than expected.
B.I.G. Logistics is ready to assist with the peaks and valleys in your year. Wishing you all the merriest, brightest, peak season, from our family to yours, we thank you again for an exciting and incredible 2015 and hope to see even more of you in 2016.
